About Claire

A blank page is much less intimidating when you have someone to talk your ideas through with. I’m Claire, and I like starting with what you noticed about a story, even if you aren’t sure how to turn it into an essay yet. There is room to ask questions, change your mind and try a sentence aloud before writing it down. I support Ontario English in Grades 6–12 and Math in Grades 6–10, including OSSLT, Grade 6 EQAO reading and writing, and Grade 6 and Grade 9 EQAO Math preparation. We might plan an essay, unpack a word problem or rebuild a piece of algebra that keeps getting in the way. I enjoy mystery novels, and I bring that same habit of looking for clues to a passage or a problem. Lessons combine discussion, one clear example and time for you to try independently. We work on understanding the question as well as producing an answer, with a manageable next step at the end. Teaching approach

Choose one reading, writing or math goal from the student's current work. Model a strategy, ask the student to explain it and move to a similar task with fewer prompts. For EQAO and OSSLT, practise reading instructions and explaining answers. Give feedback on the student's own writing rather than supplying work to submit.
