About David

My Biology and Chemistry lessons support students following the Alberta curriculum, with an emphasis on understanding relationships between ideas and using scientific language accurately. I favour a deliberate pace, with enough time to examine a misconception rather than move past it. Three priorities guide the work: • Concepts: establish what a process or principle means, using diagrams and examples where they clarify the explanation. • Application: consider how that knowledge helps us interpret an experiment, solve a calculation or account for an observation. • Communication: develop an answer that follows logically, uses evidence and addresses the question. The starting point is the student's current course material. We can concentrate on a difficult unit, revisit earlier concepts or organise revision around the areas that need most attention. I ask students to explain their reasoning throughout, including when they are uncertain, because it helps us distinguish a gap in knowledge from difficulty expressing an idea. For longer-term support, we can revisit selected questions to check what has been retained and adjust the next session accordingly. Please include the course, current unit and any approaching assessment when making an enquiry.
