About Oliver

My favourite question in a math lesson is ‘Why does that work?’ I’m Oliver, and I like helping students get beyond recognising a worked example to knowing how to start a new problem themselves. If you lose your place halfway through an algebraic solution, we slow down and find the exact step that stopped making sense. I focus on Ontario Functions (MCR3U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Mathematics of Data Management (MDM4U), and Physics (SPH3U / SPH4U). We connect graphs, equations and diagrams, then work towards questions where you choose the method yourself. I have a soft spot for logic puzzles and strategy games, and bring that patient, try-another-route attitude to lessons. A force diagram, probability model or carefully labelled graph can make a complicated question feel more manageable. Before a test, we look for recurring mistakes and build a realistic practice plan around the ideas that need attention. Teaching approach

Ask the student to explain the situation before choosing an equation or statistical method. Link a graph, diagram or model to the calculation, then practise a related question independently. Check units, assumptions and written reasoning. Use a short review of recurring errors to set the next lesson's focus.
