About Sophie

You do not need a perfect accent or a perfectly formed sentence to start speaking French with me. I’m Sophie, and I like lessons that feel like a conversation with a purpose. We might plan an imaginary weekend, talk about a favourite film or use a café menu to make a tricky grammar pattern feel useful. I support Ontario Core French in Grades 4–12, French immersion language work in Grades 4–10 and English reading and writing in Grades 4–8. We can practise a conversation, untangle verb forms, understand a text or turn a jumble of ideas into a paragraph. I’m a fan of playlists, films and little vocabulary notebooks, so I look for language you will actually want to use. In English, that might mean retelling a favourite story before writing about it; in French, trying a useful phrase in several different situations. Corrections are focused and encouraging, with time to have another go. Teaching approach

Start with a familiar topic and a short conversation or reading task. Model one grammar, comprehension or writing skill, then help the student use it in a new context. Adjust the balance of French and English to the task and learner. Keep corrections selective and leave the student's assessed writing in their own voice.
