About Alice
I provide focused Math and Physics tutoring for students following the Ontario curriculum, with careful attention to the reasoning behind each solution. My aim is to help students approach unfamiliar questions with a method they understand and can use independently. Lessons are organised around three stages: 1. Establish the starting point. We review a recent question or piece of work to identify the specific concept or skill that needs attention. 2. Develop a reliable method. I explain the reasoning, demonstrate how to set out the work and ask the student to justify key decisions. We also consider how diagrams, graphs and equations describe the same situation. 3. Check understanding. The student attempts a related problem with fewer prompts, then reviews both the result and the process. The balance changes according to the student's needs. A session before a test may concentrate on selecting methods and managing time, while ongoing support can give us space to revisit foundations and build fluency. Clear mathematical communication matters throughout: notation, units and explanations all help make thinking easier to follow. Please include the student's grade, course and current topic when enquiring.
