About Laura
Understanding a scientific explanation means being able to use it in a new situation. That is the focus of my tutoring. I'm Laura, and I work with BC students in Science 8-10, Life Sciences 11, Anatomy and Physiology 12, and Chemistry 11 and 12. I enjoy helping students connect the smaller details to the larger process: how a cell's structures support its functions, for example, or what a chemical equation tells us about a reaction. I use careful questioning and visual explanations, and I welcome students who need time to organise an answer. Outside tutoring, I enjoy nature photography and learning the names of the plants I pass on walks.
Tutoring experience
My five years of tutoring include individual science lessons, small revision groups and support during the transition into senior secondary courses. I've worked on lab-report writing, interpreting experimental results and answering questions that combine several topics. Students have brought everything from unfinished Science 9 homework to detailed Anatomy and Physiology 12 revision plans. That variety has taught me to check the foundations before assuming that more advanced practice is the best next step.
Teaching approach
Bring your class notes, a recent assignment or a topic you want to revisit. We'll choose a clear goal, work through an example and test your understanding with a different question. I use short recall checks across lessons so that earlier learning stays available when the course moves on.
